I love our earth, its water, air, glaciers and forests. I am committed to cleaning it up! I am raising funds to donate to The Ocean Cleanup, an organization that has launched the largest ocean cleanup effort in history. I am also raising funds to conduct experiments that lead to recommendations on how we can reduce air pollution by altering indoor human activities.
Why Clean our Earth?
Trash accumulates in 5 ocean garbage patches, and about 80% of the debris comes from land-based activities in North America and Asia. Plastic bags, bottle caps, plastic water bottles, fishing nets, and Styrofoam cups make up a majority of the debris. The debris threatens marine animals and destroys the ocean food web.
Particulate matter is a leading air pollutant generated by indoor human activity. Particles in the PM2.5 size range are able to travel deeply into the respiratory tract, reaching the lungs. Exposure to fine particles can cause short-term health conditions and worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease. PM2.5 particulate pollution is caused by indoor human activities such as heating, cooling, home renovations, smoking, and daily activities like cooking, showering and vacuuming. My Particulate Sensor project identifies indoor activities that have the greatest impact on PM2.5 levels, and recommends how people can make alternative indoor activity choices.

Bicycling along the 17-mile drive in Monterey Bay, I was struck by the bluest-blue of the clean Pacific Ocean. I couldn't but help capture its beauty with photographs. Each click made me ask -- Why can't all of the Pacific Ocean be this clean?
Maybe these photographs would help? I took photographs and created a set of notecards. You can buy a set of five notecards. Each notecard is complete with information about our oceans and what you can do in your everyday life to save our waters. By buying these notecards you will fund the The Ocean Cleanup project, and my own Particulate Matter sensor project that detects air pollution levels due to indoor activities.
My goal is to raise $1000 of which 75% will be donated to The Ocean Cleanup project and 25% will fund the Particulate Sensor project. My original goal was to raise $400 which I met in April 2018. I have since raised my goal, and am counting on your support to achieve it.
I dream that when I am a grown-up, my children and I will still be skiing on lushes snowy mountain tops, hiking through pristine forests, and diving to marvel at the beauty of the oceans.
Please join me by making a donation.
