Vehd ran into the kitchen dramatically this afternoon, spatula in hand, racing towards a bowl of muffin mix. I could just here the following running through my head ...."It was 3pm in Ojai, on a mild cloudy afternoon, when a small crowd gathered to commence the winter celebration of the Reddy-Padte family. A young person in the crowd raced forward cheering, "muffins, muffins" drawing the rest of the crowd into a chorus that blended into an overwhelming crecendo of Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas is you. The young boy then raced forward to stick the spatula he had been carrying across 3 rooms and 4 doorways into a bowl of muffin mix. The sticking of the spatula marks an auspicious transfer of lineage from the old to the young, the passing on of a baking tradition in the family. The boy's sticking of the spatula was accompanied by the mother's announcement of 'declaring the festivities open' for the family's first-ever Winter celebration. 11 members of the family representing a variety of different states will come together to take part in this celebration over the coming 10 days."
Dramatic! This is our first ever Winter celebration, conceptualized together with Vehd. Our major festivities include being together with Vamshi's sister's family and his uncle's family, putting up holiday lights, making candle decorations with stones we gathered from the beach, a day of baking and the hope of touching snow in southern California. We hear the 6000' mountains around Ojai might carry some white dusting in the coming days.
