In keeping with the theme of the Practice of Kindness class, I put it in my heart to find something I could do to be kind to myself today. This turned to be a hard theme for me to practice, harder at least than I had thought it would be. I found it hard in part because everything I could think of doing already fell into the category of the essential things I already do to take care of myself. Then, I broke out of thinking about it and just letting the day unfold.
I have been working through a scratchy throat for a week now. Yesterday, it made me weak and tired, causing me to nap in the middle of the day. I find it very hard to nap in the middle of the day so yesterday turned out to be an unusual day for me. When I awoke, I felt much better and even a little energized. So, today as I put my 2 year old down for his nap, I decided that instead of cooking and doing chores, I would just get some rest and do those things that energize me. It is very rare for me to do this in the afternoon. This class energizes me so I am spending my 'free time' this afternoon being kind to myself by soaking in all the stories of kindness coming from this class.
