'unforgiven' by me

i cannot stand violence in movies. i cringe everytime a gun is shot or when i see the slightest spill of blood. i have my grandmother to thank for my low tolerance of violence. we are watching (well, i am writing on my blog, while vamshi and my dad are watching) 'unforgiven' and i really don't care for it. the whole story; which is probably a good one; is centered around violence.

what bothers me about it though is something beyond the movie. this is the second or third academy award nominee that we have not liked. i don't know what to make of why that is the case ..

being with dad

my dad is visiting from india, to spend time with me and help with the redesign of our home. it has been delightful to have him be so engaged in what is going on with me .. whether trying to understand what i am preparing for school, or what i do around the house or what i want with the new design of our home. he has always been one to take keen interest in what i have done, often, when he did not even agree with what i was doing. i hope i can do the same for the little one growing in me.

a month already!

i just realized that almost a month has passed since my last posting. wow! i am 4 weeks more pregnant, definitely feeling it and a lot has happened since then. the biggest event was the PSCS Student Showcase, an annual event in which the students' talents and creations from the year are showcased. the cooking class i teach, prepared appetizers and desserts for a crowd of 100. they wanted to make food from all around the world this time, so they made 6 appetizers and 6 desserts, each from a different region of the world. they built up to 2 days of cooking over a period of 3 months, carefully planning the menu, trying out each of the dishes, making modifications, shopping for all the ingredients, deciding on the presentation, gathering equipment and ultimately, cooking for 2 days straight to delight the palates of 100 people. i was beaming at the end of it all. it was an honor to share in their experience.

touching gift

the baby received this onez and booties from one of my students. she wore them when she was a baby! what a touching gift! i love things that have stories behind them and this one sure does. the hippy colors alone will tell many tales ...
